Rapunzel "Tangled" braided hair tutorial without a wig!

Here is a step by step hair tutorial for those that have little kiddos (or us) wanting to be princess rapunzel this Halloween!!

For this tutorial you will need:

-Andalou naturals hairspray

-Inexpensive hair extensions

-Comb

-No slip Bobby pins

First: Using Andalou naturals hairspray & a comb give your hair volume by slightly teasing the roots. This will make it easier for you to mold & sculpt your hair.

Second: create two small braids on both sides of your ears, pull them together (in a half up style) and pin.

Third: bring all hair to the side & backcomb the remaining hair that is still down (for more texture) Then begin to braid.

Fourth: once you've got the braid done, taking an extension weft (its ok if it has clips, we just wont be using them) tie extension into a pony & connect with your hair! Add more product to falling hair, tease again then braid.

Fifth: Using a small strand from the extension (near the rubberband) wrap it around the band & pin, to hide the band. Now repeat steps 4-5 (using as many extensions as needed) until you get to your desired length!! (I used two wefts, but I also have decently long hair to begin with)

Sixth: Loosen braid for even more fullness & spray!

Seventh: Accessorize with a crown & some flowers & ENJOY!

Some of you may know this healthy summer snack already, but for those that dont, I thought Id share! Its simple. Frozen grapes!

Pop some grapes in the freezer overnight & voila you have yourself a nummy treat! Its that simple! No high fructose corn syrup or preservatives!

Just be sure the grapes are organic, for the best benefits. Also Ive heard (correct me if im wrong) but the darker the fruit the more anti-oxidants.. so opt for dark purple or red grapes!

DIY upholstery cleaner for mattresses & pillows

As I type im enjoying the pleasant smell of lavender & lemon oil.. yummy!!

Heres a nice concoction for your mattresses & pillows... and/or any other upholstered items you have that may be in need of a quick clean up..

Enough for King bed & 2 pillows:
1/2 cup pure Baking Soda
2-4 drops pure lemon oil (anti-fungal)
2-4 drops pure lavender oil (soothing & cleansing)

Mix ingredients together with a fork and pour small amounts onto pillows & mattress. Allow mixture to sit for about an hour or more and vacuum away with upholstery attachements.

NOTE: To avoid damage or staining, be sure to test a on a small area prior to use.

On twitter I get lots & lots of questions of what my favorite products are that are SAFE & I thought it would be appropriate to start posting them here so you all can get the scoop.

Shannon asked: Do you have a favorite mascara? I need recommendations & Im due 4 some new ones! <3 <3 <3

Mascaras have been tricky to find, because I want a good solid waterproof one, that also gives the length & volume & curl! ..is that too much to ask for? ;)

Anyway here are a few ive found that I like. One drugstore & one not. These aren't waterproof (boo).. BUT they do perform decently well!

The Organic Wear Jumbo Lash Mascara has a great BIG wand & has easy application! Also is SUPER bright in color so you always know right where your mascara is in your makeup bag!

My other favorite option (non drugstore) would be:

The Tarte Gifted Amazonian Clay Smart Mascara it has some great active ingredients that are suppose to help give your lashes some vavoom!.. I notice a little vavoom, but not sure if its as MUCH as they claim. Either way though, its great little mascara!

Im so glad you asked! I have a dear friend (Hi AMBER!) that has been begging me to tell her what a good sunscreen is & I keep forgetting.. (bad!) Anyway- Yes! I just found a great one over the weekend that is also drugstore brand!! WAHOO! Anyway heres the beauty:

Aveeno Sun Natural Protection Sunblock SPF 30 Lotion, 3 oz It is waterproof. That was my biggest thing. A gentle WATERPROOF Sunscreen. I was out in the sun for about 5 hours, swimming my little heart out & had no burns. You do need to be sure you're re-applying as often as needed!

Vu asked: What's your favorite foundation primer?

Ive got two! One is also a drugstore brand & the other isn't.

Physicians Formula Correcting Primer 3-in-1 Corrector + Primer + Sun Protection. This little primer has so many great features! Its moisturizes, primes, corrects, has an spf & comes with easy application! This sounds like a sales pitch.. so im gonna give you one negative about the product... there aren't a lot of active ingredients... actives can be great for helping heal your skin throughout the day while wearing it.. so thats kinda a bummer.. BUT heck its safe & does the job extremely well!

My all time favorite foundation primer:

Korres Quercetin & Oak Age-reversing Primer This is an INCREDIBLE primer. Expensive.. but worth it. It applies smooth. Leaves your skin soft & has soo many great active ingredients that help your skin repair itself throughout the day!! I LOVE when you can have skin care anti-aging benefits all day.. instead of just at night.

FYI: I am always trying to find the next best item... so they do change every now & then. But these are the ones im currently loving!! Hope you enjoyed!!

1- Stacy's "Simply Naked" pita chips

2- 1/2 cup Vegenaise (dairy-free mayo substitute, tastes almost the same!)

3- 12.5 oz canned chicken breast (Cooked)

4-pepper to taste

Drain water from Chicken can. Im small-med bowl mix together Veganaise & chicken. Add pepper to taste.

Dip chips into chicken mixture & enjoy!

As an eco-friendly makeup artist, I have searched far and wide for the best eco-friendly brushes. Many of them have received rave reviews from my clients, especially my EcoTools brushes.

EcoTools brushes are my personal favorite. They are inexpensive ($4-$16) and available at many local drugstores and superstores. EcoTools brushes are environmentally-friendly and vegan, made of cruelty-free taklon (synthetic) hairs, bamboo, and recycled aluminum.

They are made well and will last for years if cleaned regularly. The main disadvantage to this line is the limited selection, and many of the best eyeshadow brushes are only available in travel sizes.

●Favorite EcoTools brushes:

Retractable Kabuki ($8) and Angled Eye Liner ($4)

Other Options

If you are a professional, passionate about makeup, or willing to spend a little more on your brushes, you might want to consider these eco-friendly and vegan brushes:

Healthy popcorn! (yummier than the movies!)

You will need.....

-Air popper (Walmart or Amazon $20) <--remember those? Yes the 90's are back!

-Organic Popcorn kernels

-Extra virgin olive oil cold pressed (EVOO)

(Go HERE to see why we recommend cold pressed)

-Himalayan Sea salt

-Lg bowl with lid

Fill small cup that comes with air popper with kernels & pour where directed in air popper.

Place bowl under and allow popcorn to flow into bowl.

Once filled sprinkle salt over to taste

Drizzle the EVOO over fresh popcorn.

(if you like your popcorn buttery, do more EVOO.. if you prefer less buttery, go light on the EVOO.)

Replace lid on bowl, turn some music on and shake shake shake :)

Pop in a movie, Snuggle up on the couch & ENJOY!

Dishwasher detergent:

1/2 C. Castile Soap (i.e Dr Bronners) (varies between machines, may only need 1/4 c)

1/2 C water

3 Drops Tea Tree Oil

Salt (hard water areas 1Tbsp regular 1tsp)

1 tsp Lemon Juice

1/4 C white vinegar

1. Mix Together all ingredients except lemon juice & vinegar in a easy squeezable bottle & use 1 TBSP per load (This does vary between machines)

2. In separate container mix lemon Juice & vinegar & use small amount each load in your rinse aid for sparkly dishes!

Hand washing dishes:

Dr Bronners pure Castile Soap

Laundry

----------------------

Laundry Detergent:

3 Gallons hot tap water

1- Fels-Naptha Laundry Bar Soap

1 C. Arm & Hammer Super Wash Soda, Detergent Booster

3/5 C Borax

5 drops a gallon Essential oils (Optional)

Large 3 gallon bucket & Paint stick or long spatula. (Ask your local bakery for an empty 3 gallon glazing bucket with lid, should be free & just the right size!You'll want to wash it out prior to using for recipe)

1. Grate bar of soap

2. In Large pan heat 4-6 cups water till hot & SLOWLY stir in bar of soap till dissolved.

2. Add Soda & Borax, stir till dissolved and incorporated.

3. Combine into 3 Gallons of water add oils if desired, cover & let sit overnight

4. The next morning, the detergent will have thickened. Using spatula or paint stick break it up & stir together.

* Use at least 1- 1 1/2 C per load.*

NOTE: This should work on newer machines & front loaders,

I would still recommend doing your research if your un-sure.

Fabric Softener:

6 C water

3 C vinegar

2 C Organic hair conditioner

1. Mix ingredients together. Put tsp on WET washcloth & wash/dry with load.

Shower Cleaner:

3 C. hot water

1/2 c Vinegar

1 TBSP dish detergent (recipe above)

1 TBSP Borax

Combine ingredients and spray or use in automatic shower cleaner.

2 parts Extra Virgin Olive Oil

2 Parts Lemon Juice

Essential oils for fragrance & preserving.
